PPO Health Plans
What is a PPO?
A PPO, or Preferred Provider Organization, is a type of health insurance plan that provides greater flexibility in choosing healthcare providers. With a PPO plan, individuals have access to a network of healthcare providers and can choose to see any provider within the network without the need for a referral.
However, they may also choose to see a provider outside of the network, but they may be subject to higher out-of-pocket costs. PPO plans often offer more comprehensive coverage than other types of insurance plans, and they give individuals the freedom to choose their own healthcare providers.
HMO Health Plans
What is an HMO?
An HMO, or Health Maintenance Organization, is a type of health insurance plan that provides a limited network of healthcare providers for individuals to choose from. With an HMO plan, individuals must choose a primary care physician (PCP) who acts as their main point of contact for all of their healthcare needs. If they need to see a specialist, they must first get a referral from their PCP.
HMO plans typically have lower out-of-pocket costs than other types of insurance plans, but they also have more restrictions on which healthcare providers individuals can see. HMO plans are designed to encourage individuals to seek care within the network in order to keep healthcare costs under control.
